Mr. BS Ravi, General Manager (Military Radar), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) talked about the nature of wars that are being fought nowdays. Most wars are hybrid in nature. BEL supplies large number of systems to defence forces. In his case study, Mr. Ravi covered Weapon Locating Radar “SWATHI”. This project had 85% components manufactured in India and was a showcase for “Make in India”

Based on the success of the WLR, BEL was requested to create a similar radar for mountainous regions on a no cost and no commitment (NCNC) basis. The team took this project as a challenge. The project was fraught with risks, some were weather-related like landslides and some major ones like supply chain management and scheduling of trials.

Ultimately, the project met its objectives, and the indigenously-built nimble Radar reached the designated area and conducted successful firing trials. Video of the BEL radar vehicles negotiating steep and treacherous mountains in extreme weather conditions wowed the audience.
