Synopsis :

Stakeholder Management is big challenge for any PM & wherever there are differences due to human beings there is risk of conflicts happening. But due to highly dispersed & distributed nature of E&C organizations & projects, there are very high chances of conflicts which PM can’t ignore. Many studies have shown that the conflicts can impact productivity anywhere from 15% to 40% depending upon various factors like industry, Organizational Maturity, Leadership Styles, Culture, Geographical distribution, Internal Power & Political factors & Constraints. Successful PM’s need to hone up their Conflict handling competencies to have risk mitigation strategy for his projects’ success.

In this session, we will explore life cycle of Conflicts & some of their root causes. Then will present some behavioral factors and tools which can help leaders in mitigating or minimizing the impact of conflicts.

What will the audience gain:

The session will help in sensitizing the audience about their role & approach towards conflicts.

Some thoughts could be useful for leaders in responding to conflict situations.

Session will try to bring human dimension in approaching certain difficult situations.

Topic: Meetings Matter

We have instances, one person taking lead to communicate with several people results in quick and satisfactory outcome rather than same people huddling together for a discussion in a meeting. Also, in organizations crucial decisions are made by one person – usually a project manager / senior management representative – decisions are conveyed over an email, over a telephonic call, or a simple conversation between 2 people.

Definitely, most meetings are not taken seriously, where people gather just to meet one another, attend to poke fun at others, many attendees discuss everything trivial and out of agenda. For some it is waste of time and for other few it is an opportunity to multi-task and attends to personal left-over activities. Yes, we all know how meetings are painful, are waste of valuable time and many call it a ‘necessary evil’. We love to hate meetings, isn’t it? Leaders should consider meetings as use of a valuable resource, cost.

What will the audience gain:

From his experiences, observations and research, the speaker wishes to provide reasons why time for meetings is to be invested. Speaker intends to provide instances and cases on how meetings have provided opportunities to see leadership in action, assists in connect to gather positive outcomes, provide platform for people & knowledge management, and, why meetings should be a necessary routine (read ritual) in a project.

Vijay K Paul is a professional with over thirty five years of professional experience in strategic business management, product life cycle program / portfolio leadership, business operations and human resources management with global corporations and small & medium sector companies. His career has been equally distributed between IT / Software technology and health care industries. He has been instrumental in projects which delivered IT solutions to customers in Consumer Products Group (CPG), Government & Public Sector companies, national defense programs, healthcare service providers and ecommerce startups.

Currently, Vijay works as Chief Operations Officer (COO) with NetServ Technologies, a mid sized software product engineering company. His previous association have been with General Electric (GE) Healthcare, Wipro Corporation, BioGenex and has run a medical diagnostic Services company.

Vijay has been volunteering for PMI Bangalore India Chapter for almost a decade & has been on their Board, including being the President till recently.

Currently, he is the President of his Residential Association where he has been working on public & civil issues related to challenges citizens are facing in exponentially growing city Namma Bengaluru.

Vijay is an Electrical Engineer from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and holds Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad. He got Project Management Professional (PMP) certified in 2006. He is a Six Sigma Green belt too.

Nagesh Ramamurthy is a Construction Project Management Professional with 27 years of industry leadership experience. Nagesh had managed large projects for large national and multi-national clients’ successfully as team and account lead. Recently Nagesh has been responsible for Leadership, Management, Portfolio development and Project Operations for world’s leading corporation. In senior management positions he held in organisation he has been responsible for processes development, talent enhancement, driving operational excellence and improving customer satisfaction.
