Roughly how many hours per week or per month you spend on volunteering for PMI activities?
4-6 Hours/month

What motivates you to volunteer for PMI ?
I learn something new every year being a volunteer. Sometimes the exposure which we get here is something you may not get from your own organization. So I guess volunteering has this big advantage of learning new things. You also sometimes have the satisfaction that you spent your weekend on something
constructive rather than watching TV and not doing much.

What have been the challenges for volunteering at the Chapter?
I will not call it as a challenge. I take up tasks at the Chapter for which I have the bandwidth for the given duration. Of course even then there could be challenges after taking up the assignment and that is where your time management skill comes into test. I prefer volunteering activity where I need to spend time over a weekend.

PMI Volunteering, Professional commitment, Personal commitment - How do you balance the three?

I am at present volunteering only for the PM Footprints and hence generally keep my alternate Thursdays reserved for PM Footprints in the evening from 6 pm to 9 pm. If something very urgent comes up, that I cannot move around this time, then only I ask one of my fellow volunteer colleagues to cover up for me at
the PM Footprints.

Name any 1-2 best volunteering experience?
I am enjoying whatever I have been doing so far:
• In the nominating committee for electing the Directors
• I have been enjoying the role of Master of Ceremonies at the various events organized by Chapter.
• In the PMPC over the last 3 years, I was entrusted with different volunteering assignments every year and I have learnt and enjoyed all that.

Tell us your hobbies, or things you are passionate about, other than volunteering
at PMI?
Reading book, Meeting People and I have always learnt something from them. Watching TV and even Saas Bahu serials as my mom has the control over the remote most of the time.

What will be your message for your fellow volunteers?

Start small. It may take initially 2-3 months for you to figure out what you can do in the Chapter. I am sure you will be exposed to experiences or challenges that we may not easily get in our professional life.

What is your thought on preferred recognition for volunteering?

I am fine with any of the below. But if the grooming of the volunteers can happen for the next challenging assignments that can be also a big motivation factor.

- Personal appreciation letter
- Appropriate memento (T-shirt, Hat, Plaque, etc.) presented privately
- Public verbal recognition
- Publicly presented memento
